Samuel Richard McGuire, 87, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, Ohio where he had been a resident for the past 12 years, following a period of declining health. Born April 8, 1937 in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Samuel Robert and Susan Louise (Pender) McGuire.

Known by many as Dick, he grew up in Bowerston where he was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and a 1956 graduate of Conotton Valley High School. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in the early 60’s before beginning his long career in manufacturing. Dick was employed by Marlite in Dover for many years, followed by U.S. Ceramic Tile in East Sparta, until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Guardians throughout his life.

He will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Adam Lightfoot; grandchildren, Jackson Richard and Jane Louise Lightfoot; and brother, Jeffrey A. McGuire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise McGuire.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Salvation Army.
