Albert Charles Amicone, born on June 27, 1936, in Roswell, Ohio, passed away on September 6, 2024, at the Oak Pointe Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Baltic under the care of Crossroads Hospice. He was 88 years old.

He was the son of the late Vincent “Jimmy” and Mary (Moroni) Amicone. Albert was also preceded in death by his brother, James “Jim” Amicone. A graduate of Dennison St. Mary’s High School, Albert earned his diploma with the class of 1954. 

Throughout his life, he showcased a deep passion for sports that spanned many decades. An avid sports fan, he held a special affinity for all Cleveland sports, passionately cheering for his teams. Albert’s remarkable contributions to the world of sports as an official for both football and basketball resonated with those around him. His dedication to officiating lasted an impressive 50 years, reflecting his unwavering commitment and love for the game. His excellence in this field did not go unnoticed; in 2002, he was rightfully inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Hall of Fame, a testament to his lasting impact on high school sports.

He authored a book titled “Whistle Stops,” which captures not only his experiences but also the essence of the sports community he cherished.

Albert was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover where he was active with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Doris (Eckert) of Dover; his children, Vincent Amicone of Dover, Sue Amicone of Dover, Jennifer (Brady Weskamp) Amicone of California, and Steve Amicone of Cleveland; his granddaughter, Annie Kerr of Dover; his beloved canine companion, Daisy; along with several nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Dates and times will be announced as soon as arrangements are finalized.
