The Tuscarawas County Health Department is now scheduling for the latest COVID-19 booster.

The CDC recommends those 6 months and older get an updated vaccine to prevent severe illness from the virus and new variants.

Data, as of September 5th, shows the county with 214 active cases, says Community Relations Director Jennifer Demuth.

“County in August and actually throughout the state, we have seen an increase in COVID-19 cases which are part of a summer wave. We generally do see an increase each summer in some COVID-19 cases.”

Certain individuals are asked to consider getting the latest vaccine version once it’s accessible.

“For those who are in high-risk categories, so older individuals and those with chronic illness or immune suppressed individuals, we do recommend they get their COVID-19 updated vaccine just as soon as it’s available to them.”

In the meantime, Demuth urges all to practice good hand washing hygiene and disinfecting commonly used surfaces, if sick, stay home.

“And away from other for at least 24-hours until your symptoms are getting better, and you’ve been fever free without using any type of fever reducing medication.”
