Joseph Alan Vanfossen, age 65, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness, on Friday, September 20, 2024, at his residence.

Born April 2, 1959, in Dennison, O., Joe is the son of Shirley (Brown) Vanfossen and the late Melvin W. Vanfossen.

In 1977, Joe graduated from Claymont High School. He was employed for 30 years at Timken in Canton, Ohio, as a crane repairman. His father founded Vanfossen Cemetery Lettering and in 1996 Joe continued the legacy for another 28 years.

Joe enjoyed working, having a houseboat at Tappan Lake, NASCAR, Cleveland Browns and OSU football. He also liked winemaking and visiting different wineries. Joe was also a member of the Uhrichsville Elks #424 and the Uhrichsville Moose Family Center 740.

On November 7, 1980, Joe married Linda (LeMasters) Vanfossen, who survives of the home.  Also surviving is his mother Shirley Vanfossen of Dennison, his children Joseph (Julie) Vanfossen of Dover and Beth (Noah) Mechling of Dennison; his siblings Melinda (Mark) Willard of Tappan Lake, Janet (Michael) McConnell of New Philadelphia and Wesley (Debbie Leech) Vanfossen of Kimbolton; three grandchildren Peyton Jo Vanfossen, Ryder Keller Vanfossen and Dean Sawyer Mechling, mother-in-law Arlene LeMasters; sisters-in-law Peggy Pringle and Paula Troyer and brother-in-law Lawrence (Kathy Harding) LeMasters; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father Melvin, Joe is preceded in death by his beloved dog “Shelby”; father-in-law Larry LeMasters; brothers-in-law Bill Pringle and Greg Troyer and nephew John Ross McConnell.

Funeral services for Joe will be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. in Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Mark Unrue officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the funeral home.
