Glen Arden Murphy, a beloved husband, father, educator, and farmer, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2024. Born on May 3, 1943, to Bertha Glazer Murphy and John Lee Murphy, (also raised by Elmer Butcher), he was a life-long resident of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Glen was a humble man who enjoyed living a simple life on his family farm outside of Newcomerstown. Most important to Glen was to honor and obey God and to love and support his family.

Glen was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Couch Murphy. Together, they raised four daughters, Holly (Barry) Walker, Stacie (Doug) White, Stephanie Murphy, and Robin Murphy, who were the center of his world. Glen also loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Christina (André) Servais, Jeffrey (Ashley) Walker, Sara (T.J.) Johnson, Murphy White, and 6 great grandchildren. Glen also has a brother, Bruce Murphy, of Wilmington, NC, and a sister, Carol Fitch, of Columbus, Ohio.

Glen diligently studied the Bible with great interest and passion. He was a member of Hartwood Church for over 40 years and taught Sunday School for most of those years. He inspired many in his class, as well as his four daughters, to study the Word and to strive to live a righteous life.

A man of education and service, Glen graduated from Port Washington High School and went on to earn a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University, studying agriculture and education. He spent most of his career as lead instructor at the Ohio Labor Training Center in Howard, Ohio.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Glen was a dedicated farmer, working tirelessly to maintain and cultivate his family’s land, raising dairy and beef cattle. His love for the earth and his deep connection to the agricultural way of life were evident in his daily work.

Glen will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served. His legacy of love, dedication, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him.

His daughters are especially grateful for the eternal gift their father shared with them, the love of God and His salvation.
The family is having a private graveside service on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
