Dennison firefighters say crews had to flatten a vacant house after it went up in flames Wednesday.

Chief Dave McConnell says this fire in the 46-hundred block of Gatchell Road southeast, in Mill Township, was reported just before noon.

“When they got there, they found heavy fire in the basement and it extended up into the first floor, and from there it went up into the walls, the attic, up into the second floor.”

McConnell says he was told by the owner that the fire broke out when she stopped by the vacant home to heat it by lighting the fuel oil furnace to prevent the water lines from freezing.

There were no injuries.  McConnell says the home was valued at about 15 thousand dollars.

Firefighters from Uhrichsville, Warwick and Rush Townships, and Arrowhead Joint Fire District assisted.  The final ones left the scene around 3:30 pm.
