New Philadelphia municipal court staff are continuing to collect cold weather gear and other essentials for those impacted by hurricane Helene.
Today is the second and final day of the court’s supply drive for residents of Asheville, North Carolina and surrounding areas.
Probation officer Mindy Craig says they’ll be accepting donations out of the old fire station again from 8 am until 6 pm.
“We keep seeing reports of people up in the mountains on horseback or goats, trying to get items up to them. Obviously, the weather has dropped in temperature, so we have been accepting gently used coats, hats, gloves, socks. I would love nothing more and help these people more than we can ever imagine.”
Craig works alongside retired Dover policeman turned probation officer Bill Nedrow, who plans to leave early Saturday morning to drive the supplies to their destination.
Items being accepted include new and gently used coats, gloves, hats, hoodies, and hand warmers along with cleaning supplies, baby formula, and hygiene products.
Supplies can also be dropped off at Roxford Church on Saturday from 9 until noon.
