The warm, dry, and windy weather combined with the leaves and dead vegetation on the ground produced some destructive brush fires in the county Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from Sugarcreek and other departments responded to one just after 1:30 pm in the 54 hundred block of Schilling Hill Road northwest that reportedly burned a house and outbuilding.

Newcomerstown and other departments had one a short time earlier on Post Boy Road that destroyed a building. One firefighter there was treated at the scene for minor burn injuries. A dog and kitten were rescued from the fire.

Other brush fires broke out on Liberty Road southwest, State Route 93 northwest, and Schneider’s Crossing Road northwest.

There was another one Monday morning, at 4:30 am, on County Road 160, in Paint Township in Holmes County, west of Dundee.

Firefighters were asking people not to burn anything outdoors.

The state’s fall burn ban remains in effect from 6 am to 6 pm.
