Dover firefighters say smoking is to blame for a brush fire that ended up destroying a mobile home and detached garage west of town Sunday.

Nobody was injured. Lt. Brian Stewart says the occupant of the Schilling Hill Road home admitted to tossing a cigarette into an area with a lot of weeds.

Those ignited and caught the garage on fire while the flames also extended up the hill, burning about three acres of woodland in all.

Stewart is urging everyone to use caution since a statewide burn ban remains in place from 6am to 6pm and that vegetation is still dry.

Stewart says the person who started the fire won’t be cited because it wasn’t malicious, just careless.
