Martha Jean (Dorsey) Calvert passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH. Born January 5, 1943, to the late John Wayne and Bernice (Palmer) Dorsey in Newcomerstown, Ohio.
Growing up, she was involved with her church’s Luther League, and a 10-year member of the Buckhorn Girls 4-H Group. She was a 1960 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and graduated from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician at Vera’s Beauty Shop. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown where she served on church council, sang in the choir, leader of the Rachel Circle Group, taught Sunday School and assisted with planning funeral meals.
On June 30, 1974, she married the Rev. William O. Calvert at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown. She assisted her husband with the Youth Ministry Group and developed many friendships with the youth which she still remains today. She was a 50 year member of Buckhorn Grange and in planning with their Memorial Day Services at Bethel Cemetery for 20 years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for 9 years. She worked at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation for 16 years in the activities department.
Surviving is a sister, Mary Jo Williams of Plain City, Ohio; brother, Robert Wayne (Rebecca) Dorsey of Newcomerstown; 16 nieces and nephews; many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. William Calvert (December 24, 1987); her sister and brother-in-law, Dean and Margery (Dorsey) Fletcher.
Services will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 1 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12-1 pm. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery.
