Charges were filed following an arrest after a Wednesday evening pursuit.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Phil Valdez says it occurred around 7:30pm.

“Deputy [Coby] Eckstein was on patrol, he was on State Route 36 eastbound by the Y Tavern, when he noticed a vehicle passing another vehicle in a no passing zone, so he attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle then fled from him”

The occupants turned off the truck lights and drove down River Park Road, which turned into a corn field. The truck continued but eventually stopped and the two men fled on foot.

Gnadenhutten Police assisted in setting up a perimeter while Sugarcreek’s K9 unit responded alongside the Sheriff’s Office K9. The Ohio State Highway Patrol utilized air units. One subjected was located with night vision.

“The passenger, Paul Orr, that’s the one we charged, he attempted to cross the river and we found him on the river bank, Tuscarawas River. He was transported by squad to Trinity Hospital and treated there. They thought he might have hypothermia because he was in the river”

Orr was charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Law enforcement is still looking for the driver.
