The community’s generosity stunned the Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County.

Case Manager Becky Everett says they posted about having a low stock of non-perishable pantry items, and within a few days they are now back to full capacity thanks to donations.

“I always say we’re blessed to be in the community that we are in, and it’s still true. We’re just blessed for this community.”

The Homeless Shelter helps 50 to 60 local families by providing food boxes, and she notes that having such a low supply is not typical.

“It is just currently just the affordability and the availability of products that we usually get from the Akron Canton Foodbank just weren’t there. The stuff that we needed was priced higher than what the shelter could really afford to put out, and so that’s why our pantry got so low at this time.”

Everett adds they still need help with household supplies, like paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, cleaning items, and hygiene products.

They can also use gently used hats, gloves, and scarves for the winter months, along with hand and foot warmers.
