Louis Ronald “Lou” Catola, 79, of New Philadelphia passed away on November 6, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice Truman House.

Born on October 12, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Zierden) Catola. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Louis Ronald “Louie” Catola.

Lou grew up in Sturgeon, Pennsylvania where he graduated from South Fayette Township High School. At the young age of 17, he entered military service in the U.S. Navy, where he served in intelligence during the turbulent years of the Vietnam War. His service to his country was a significant part of his identity, and he carried the values learned during this time throughout his life, enjoying political discourse and a love of country.

The G.I. bill enabled Lou to continue his education, and he earned a Bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State in California, where he met his wife, Beth.

Lou began his professional journey as a practicing accountant, where he honed his skills and contributed to the financial well-being of many individuals and businesses. His passion for service and community led him to own and operate Catola’s Dry Cleaners in both Dover and New Philadelphia, establishments that became cornerstones in their communities.

On June 7, 1975, he married Elizabeth “Beth” (Scott), who survives. He also leaves behind his children; Ryan Catola (Becky McCahill) of New Philadelphia, Jen (Nate) Quicksall of New Philadelphia, Kim (Travis) Vollmar of Perrysburg, and Renae Catola Joseph of Wittier, CA; six grandchildren; along with his sister, Kathy Conn of Pittsburgh.

In honoring Lou’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. To sign an online guestbook, visit the obituary link on the funeral home’s website. The family will hold a celebration of life to be announced at a future date.
