Dover’s mayor says the city’s fundraising efforts toward new pickleball courts are about two-thirds of the way toward their goal.

Shane Gunnoe is confident the city will receive a state grant that would cover about half the cost of the 255-thousand dollar project.

The Reeve’s Foundation has also donated 50-thousand dollars.

Gunnoe believes the city’s parks foundation can raise the rest of the money, $75,000 dollars, in time to allow construction to begin in the spring. The initial investment would build four new pickle ball courts at Dover City Park near the parks office and bocce courts on North Wooster Avenue.

Future plans show as many as eight courts and a pavilion at that location. The city also has two pickleball courts at Deis Hill.
