Officials have been notified of an individual making calls with claims to be from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a post, the scammer references a failing to report warrant and demands money else the warrant won’t be “taken care of”.

The Sheriff Office notes they serve warrants in person and would never call or asking for a payment.

Officials warn that scare tactics are common when it comes to fake callers.

Other signs include someone pretending to be from an organization, saying that there is a prize or problem that needs to be resolved, scammers also put pressure to act immediately, and there is usually a payment, typically in the form of a money transfer or gift cards.

Anyone receiving a call they feel is not legitimate is asked to never respond with personal information, to hang-up immediately, and call the Sheriff’s Office at 330-339-2000.
