Twyla D. McCartney, 74, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. Born August 16, 1950, in Dennison, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Donald Henry and Nora Ruth (Jones) Mowls.
A lifelong area resident, Twyla was a 1968 graduate of Claymont High School before attending business college in preparation for her long career in banking. She was employed for 35 years at Huntington Bank, followed by 10 years at First Federal Community Bank until her retirement in 2023. She truly loved her work and taking care of her customers. Twyla served as the treasurer for S.E.A. for a number of years and had attended Broadway Methodist Church. When she wasn’t working, she loved spending time outside, including walking and gardening. Most of all, she treasured the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandson, Kase.
On May 28, 1971, Twyla married William L. McCartney who survives her at their home. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Max and Jennifer McCartney; grandson, Kase McCartney; step granddaughter, Taylen; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Hazel Mowls; brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Maryann McCartney; and nieces, Molly McCartney and Sarah Burkholder.
In keeping with Twyla’s wishes, she will be cremated without a public visitation. Her family plans to celebrate her life privately. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers. Twyla’s family extend their sincere gratitude to everyone at Park Village Dover for the exceptional care provided to her during her final illness.
