The suspect accused of attacking the clerk during a robbery attempt at the Dover speedway gas station on south Wooster Avenue this month now faces formal charges.

A Tuscarawas county grand jury has indicted 39-year-old John a McNutt of Dover. County prosecutor Ryan Styer says it includes a single count of attempted murder and two counts each for felonious assault and aggravated robbery – all felonies – for the December 9th incident where McNutt allegedly struck the clerk in the head repeatedly with a hammer and ran off.

Styer says the grand jury heard the case on December 19th and McNutt is scheduled to appear before common pleas judge Elizabeth Thomakos for arraignment January 15th.

McNutt remains in the Tuscarawas county jail on 500-thousand dollars bond.  He’s been locked up since the night of the attack.
