The backbone of the local soap box derby passed away last week.
Tim Hiller championed and volunteered with the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby for 40 years, serving as race director for much of that time. He was inducted in the international soap box derby hall of fame this year as the nation’s longest serving director, having started in 1984.
Hiller was 66 and recently in declining health.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 at Toland-Herzig funeral home, where there will be a service on Friday at 11 a.m.
