Two seats are up on the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections and résumés are being accepted.
A person needs to be elected by both political parties as a recommendation, which goes to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office for appointment, explains local Board of Elections Director Gail Garbrandt.
“This time, the republicans have Jerry Lahmers currently on the board. Jerry was appointed to fill the remaining term of Doug Wills, who unfortunately passed away, and the democrats have the seat that is currently held by Jeremiah Johnson.”
The terms, starting March 1st, will be for four years.
Interested democrats can send their résumés by email to tuscdems@gmail.com or by regular mail to the Tuscarawas Democratic Party P.O. Box 524, New Philadelphia. These need to be in before the January 30th meeting, which will be held at party headquarters at 6pm.
The local Republican Party has not yet announced a meeting date or provided application instructions.
Garbrandt adds that once the Secretary of State approves the appointment, a reorganization meeting will occur.
“That process would include selecting a temporary chairman, appointing a director, and then the party of the director determines the party of the chairman, and then appointment of the deputy director and the appointment of the chairman is last.”
The regular board meeting will be March 3rd at 8am.
