Avery E. Yoder, 84, of Sugarcreek passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 12, 1940 in Wooster, Ohio to the late Harvey S. and Lola (Jones) Yoder and married Carol A. (Miller) Yoder on August 18, 1962.  She died on May 17, 1992. Avery married his second wife, Ada (Troyer) Yoder on July 24, 1993.  She died on September 25, 2012.

Avery and Carol owned and operated Carab, Inc., a family oil well service for many years.  After her passing, Avery worked for Belden Brick Co. from 1993 until his retirement in 2004.  Avery was a hard worker well into his seventies, making deliveries for a local restaurant as well as being a taxi driver for various local businesses.  He was a member of New Pointe Community Church in Dover and a member of the Sugarcreek Rotary Club. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, family trips and gatherings, and decorating his house with Christmas lights and displays with his family. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family and was known for cooking his famous jambalaya, and hosting Super Bowl parties.

He is survived by children, Chuck (Tammy) Yoder of New Philadelphia, Leanne (Matt) Harman of Sugarcreek, Loretta (Scott) Miller of Millersburg, Lorraine (Bobby) Harding of Sugarcreek, and Bryan (Rae Ann) Yoder of Dover; step-son, Ron (Charlotte) Klein of Killbuck; grandchildren Mitchell Yoder, Kayla and Luke (Jenny) Yoder, Tyler (Mackenna) and Zach Harman, Alyssa (Taylor) Eliot and Jarod (fiance, Carla) Miller, Renee (Hunter) Conkle, Erica (Spencer) Festi, Kari (Adam) Miley, Ryan (Kelsey) Harding, Andrew (Ashley) Yoder, Jordan, Sarah (Hunter) Medrano, and Haylee Yoder; brother, Harvey M. “Mel” (Arlene) Yoder, sister-in-law, Mary Jane “Janie” Yoder, twelve great grandchildren, plus two more on the way, complete the family.

In addition to his parents and wives, he is preceded in death by his son Jeffrey E. Yoder, brother, William “Bill” Yoder; half brothers, Delbert Fleming and Raymond “Dale” Jones; half sisters, Alta Miller, Alma Heilman, Virginia Jones, and Evelyn Carmichael; and special companion Nancy Goodmote.

Services for Avery will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 12:00 pm (noon) at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 am to 12 pm (noon) prior to the service.
