Raymond D. Troyer, age 89, of The Inn at Northwood Village, Dover and formerly of Walnut Creek, died early January, 26, 2025, under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
Born in Hartville, Ohio on July 18, 1935, Raymond was a son of the late David D. and Katie Ann Summers Troyer.
Professionally, Raymond worked for Republic Steel and spent many years as a truck driver having hauled milk for the Regula family then driving for and retiring from Standard Oil (BP).
On October 31, 1953, Raymond married Ila Jane Ferrell. Together the couple had four children and enjoyed traveling together in their RV, and working together during various mission trips. They shared 68 years of marriage prior to Ila’s passing on January 18, 2022.
Raymond was a longtime member of the former Beach City Methodist Church and spent many years serving the village as a part of the volunteer fire department. He was involved with Red Bird Missions and used his carpentry skills to help build a church camp in Alaska. Raymond was known for his skills as a woodworker who also loved riding his Harley, hunting, camping and never shied away from helping anyone in need.
He is survived by his children, Jim (Sherry) Troyer of Wooster, Cathy (John) Himes of Bolivar, Ruthanne (Jim) Watson of Dennison and Brenda McVay of Strasburg; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, father, and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce McVay and nine siblings.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. A service, led by Pastor Tim Brown will take place in the Dover Funeral Center on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Union Lawn Cemetery at Navarre.
