Dover firefighters say nobody was injured when a space heater overloaded an electrical outlet and caused a small fire within a house Tuesday morning.

It happened in the 300 block of Lloyd Street just before 6:15 am as the residents there woke up to the smell of smoke.

Fire captain Joe Minocchi says the cause was determined to be a space heater connected to an outlet with a six-plug adaptor on it, with other cords also plugged in. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire with a water can.   He says the house did have working smoke detectors, but the fire wasn’t big enough to activate them.

Minocchi says it’s another reminder that space heaters shouldn’t be plugged into extension cords or adapters.
