Empower Tusc’s new leader is hoping to expand on the groundwork laid by her predecessor.
Suicide prevention committee chair Terri Miller replaces former coordinator Jodi Salvo, who stepped down at the beginning of the year to become Tuscarawas County’s representative in the Ohio House.
“I’m not trying to fill her shoes because I’ve got my own shoes. I had told Jodi a while ago I’m really interested in getting to know coalition work and I love what I’m doing with the suicide prevention committee, what else can I do.”
Miller has degrees in psychology and sociology.
She became involved with Empower Tusc’s school-based prevention program about three years ago.
“If you’re familiar with taking it to the schools program and before that stayed home for a bit to raise some kids, and before that had done the other side of prevention in the treatment realm.”
Miller describes herself as a huge advocate for mental health. Her goals for the coalition include fostering resiliency among youth and adults in our community.
Salvo has called her time leading Empower Tusc an “incredible privilege” and says she looks forward to seeing even stronger programming emerge. While no longer the coordinator, she has vowed to continue working with the coalition in other capacities.
