Buckeye’s exercise science and sports medicine program is moving to Dover high school.
Career center superintendent Bob Alsept says talk of a potential partnership started when the new high school was built a few years ago.
“We looked at different programs, the space they had, and their needs with doing things with their student athletes and rehab from injuries, and started discussing our exercise science program.”
Buckeye instructor Jamey Harlan will continue to oversee the program, which will move to its new home next school.
Alsept says it will remain open to juniors and seniors from all the career center’s partner districts. Shuttles will be available to transport students from buckeye to the school and back.
Alsept says this will enhance the learning experience by allowing participants to work directly with Dover’s student-athletes while creating opportunities to collaborate with nearby healthcare providers.
“Down the road partnerships and what we can do for the work based learning opportunities. We think this present a lot of real positives for our students.”
The career center is taking applications for the 2025-26 exercise science and sports medicine program at Dover high school. Alsept anticipates an open house there for prospective students and their families sometime in the spring.
