City of Uhrichsville Mayor Jim Zucal is sharing objectives for 2025.

Priorities include filter maintenance, slide repairs, and netting replacement at the water park. Zucal wants to get the Tree City USA designation for grant writing points, look into a possible landlord registration rework, and the sale of the city garage.

Alley rehabilitation and paving are a concern.

“Applied for OPWC money and we hope to double our paving money this year. Out paving money this year we’re going to focus on a lot of streets and alleys. We’ve got to get something done on Wardell Street, the east side of McCauley Drive, so we’re hoping to get news on more monies for paving. We also want to do striping.”

The city receives about $200,000 through a tax levy designated for street improvements.

Zucal also addressed infrastructure.

“Want to talk more about economic development and marketing funds. There’s a Tuscarawas County ‘Ready Grant’. I want to get our website up to speed. I want shelter improvements, security improvements, and fencing. I want to evaluate the street department and the equipment they have.”

Last year, Park Committee Chair Matt Fox requested a storage building near the water park and recommended a wooden structure. Zucal has now advocated for a steel building.

“I’ve talked about this for the last year, mayor, and now it’s all of a sudden maybe we should do this, maybe we should do that. I’ve explained it several times as to where I thought it should go.”

Zucal responded, “I’m not of the opinion that wood down by the creek and behind the stadium, and we’re going to have wood peckers, and hornets and bees and bugs, and people back there.”

The mayor suggested a park committee meeting for members to select a specific building and exact location. That recommendation would then go to council for approval. Up to $10,000 was previously agreed to for a storage solution.
