Omni Fiber will have to pay a deposit before expanding its network into Strasburg.

Village administrator Mike Rosenberry made the suggestion and shared it with company representatives just before last week’s fiasco in New Philadelphia.

He’s requiring 5-thousand-dollars up front to cover any property damage that the company will recoup once the work is complete.

Omni will have to pay the village another 50 dollars for a permit and a separate fee on each piece of equipment.

Council approved the charges on Tuesday evening, less than a week after an Omni contractor working in the city bored through a gas line and into a nearby water main, leaving around 150 Enbridge customers without heat.
