Tuscarawas County’s Elections Board Director is sharing the preliminary lineup for the May 6th primary.

Gail Garbrandt says the board had its certification meeting on Monday, approving all but two ballot hopefuls who didn’t staple their paperwork together. David Jones from the Dover council-at-large race and Newcomerstown councilman David Shepherd had their petitions tabled until a special meeting Tuesday morning as the board awaits legal guidance from the prosecutor’s office.

There are no contested primary races at this point, although the deadline for write-in candidates isn’t until February 24th.

The deadline for new voter registrations and name or address changes is April 7th, with early voting beginning the following morning.

Garbrandt says all 13 tax requests filed before last week’s deadline will make it onto the ballot, including bond issues for the New Philadelphia and Strasburg-Franklin schools.

Officials in Warwick and Sugarcreek townships are seeking replacement levies, and voters in Dover Township and Parral will decide on an additional 1.5-mill, continuous tax for fire and emergency medical services. There are also renewals in Uhrichsville, Lawrence Township, bolivar, and Gnadenhutten.
