DNA testing confirmed his identity. The coroner’s report says Evans’ death was accidental and caused by blunt trauma with thermal injury.
New Philadelphia Post Commander Lt. Johnnie Maier says a preliminary investigation is complete, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation. He says the 1973 Cessna 310Q fixed wing multi engine plane did not have a flight data recorder.
It had taken off from Harry Clever Field in New Philadelphia that Tuesday at 4:40 p.m. and crashed around 5:08 about four miles away in a farm field just across the Tuscarawas River from Five Waters Golf Course. Maier says Evans was the plane’s only occupant.
