Voters have cast the first ballots locally for May’s primary election.
Early voting started Tuesday at the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Office.
Some voters will see a bond issue to construct facilities for New Philadelphia and Strasburg Schools.
Board of Elections Director Brian Swartzwelder says there are not separate ballots for democrats and republicans in this primary, as this is an issues-only ballot.
“The various races that would have been on the ballot were all unopposed, so all those folks that filed petitions to be on the ballot in the primary they will all automatically go to November to be on the general.”
Early voting takes place between 8am and 5pm on weekdays through April 25th. He says availability expands after that.
“That last week we’re here until 7:30pm and on Tuesday of that last week we’re actually here until 8:30 mainly because that’s the last day to request an absentee ballot.”
This will be the board’s last election with early voting at the courthouse as they will soon move to the new multi-purpose building on East High Avenue.
