During the March Buckeye Career Center Board of Education meeting members agreed to purchase the American Professional Truck Driving School.
Superintendent Bob Alsept explains that this is a $1.4 million deal, which should be finalized by June.
“The Higgenbotham family came to a time where they were looking to sell the business and they approached us, probably back in October, to see if we had any interest.”
This purchase is in line with BCC’s mission to equip students with skills and certifications needed to earn a CDL licenses.
“Buckeye Career Center and the American Professional Truck Driving School have been partners for many, many years and we’ve used it for our adult ed training and for our high school students who go through the CDL training. We’ve had years where we’ve probably sent up to 50 students, high school and adult, through that program. It’s vital to us and it’s local.”
Alsept points out that while Buckeye partnered with the school for their students, the business, located just outside of Gnadenhutten, also had classes for the general public looking to obtain a CDL.
“And we plan to continue that. Not just our students but the community at large. As we move forward, we will do all the registration and signup through our adult education.”
The roughly 10-acre site has three buildings with the cost including some supplies, the testing range remaining in place, and several semis.
