Dover firefighters have been saying it could be a few days before normal operations resume at Meteor Sealing Systems on S. Tuscarawas Avenue following a Monday machine fire.

Fire Lt. Brian Stewart says they were called shortly after 3:30pm and encountered a building dull of smoke and they searched the building in near-zero visibility. Crews learned the fire had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system and it took about 45 minutes to ventilate the smoke.

Firefighters helped eight employees out of the building as it was a holiday with reduced staffing. One person was checked at the scene for smoke inhalation.

New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Sugarcreek fire departments and Smith Ambulance assisted.

Stewart adds that plant officials and engineers were working to determine a cause of the blaze in the rubber injection mold press machine and a damage estimate.
