The village of Strasburg will start a long-anticipated downtown project thanks to a grant from the Ohio Department of Development.

The agency’s Transportation Alternatives Program will provide 704 thousand dollars toward improvements along North Wooster Avenue in the heart of downtown Strasburg. Mayor Bruce Metzger say the grant will help pay concrete walks, new pavement with catch basins, curbs, gutters and nine- foot decorative pole street lighting. Metzger says that’s just part of what the village would like to do downtown.

Metzger says the TAP funds will fund about 80 percent of the work, but they will have to wait until fiscal year 2028 to receive the funding. Strasburg’s cut is part of almost 52 million dollars in statewide TAP grants.

Dover, New Philadelphia and Tuscarawas County received more than4.5 million dollars combined for construction of the Towpath Trail.
