Residents can gather at the Tuscarawas County Courthouse at 10:30am before setting out on a one-mile walk to Tuscora Park.
This demonstration allows individuals to create signs highlighting issues of concern at the federal, state, or local levels.
Organizers remind participants that this is a peaceful demonstration, walkers are to remain on the sidewalk, and vehicles have right-way at intersections.
Co-Existence Movement co-founder Karen Gallagher says once at the park, a pavilion near the bocce court has been reserved for a potluck, with several guests to speak to begin around 11:20am.
“Amanda Fontana who is the secretary for the board of the Friends of the Homeless who will be speaking about the good that they do. Kari Sommers will be speaking about SB 1. We will also have Jenn Schrock about the Fair School Funding Initiative here in Ohio.”
Gallagher notes that this event coincides with a Senate Bill 1 petition campaign to repeal the legislation before a June 25th deadline. If not enough signatures are gathered, SB 1 becomes effective June 29th.
“Really is an attack on our freedom of speech. It’s dictating how professors, really hinder what those college professors can do. it will dictate how to teach and decide what topics are controversial and that shouldn’t be.”
A pavilion near the bocce court will be setup and organizers will be there at 9am.
“Folks can just sit down and chat and hear some good conversation.”
Additionally, monetary donations will be collected to support the Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County.
