One of the assailants in a 4-on-1 attack in New Philadelphia last summer was sentenced this week to five to seven and a half years in prison after a jury found him guilty of aggravated burglary and felonious assault.

37-year-old Jared Soltero of Minerva is the third attacker to be sentenced in the August 2024 incident where four men, after a night of drinking, went to the victim’s house and assaulted him, leaving him with facial fractures and in need of several surgeries. Prosecutors called it a home invasion.

Two of the accused cooperated with authorities, while Soltero and Christopher Beatty of New Philadelphia opted for jury trials. Both were found guilty. Beatty is appealing his 10-to-15-year prison sentence. Beatty is also facing assault charges in Harrison County, but that case has been on hold during the Tuscarawas County proceedings.

One of the defendants who cooperated, Todd Riordan of Massillon, received a 3-to-4-and-a-half-year prison sentence. The other, Henry Wellman, is scheduled to be sentenced July 29th .
