The local Alcohol, Drug, Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board is hopeful the Tuscarawas County Commissioners give their nod of approval to put a replacement levy on the general election ballot.
ADAMH’s Board Director Natalie Bollon gave a presentation to the three-member board.
“We are a division of county government and in addition to being appropriate for us to get the county commissioners on board with passing this we also want their support. We want them to believe in what we do and see the benefit of our activities on the community that they’re charged with serving as well.”
Currently the levy is $12.91 per year for a $100,000 taxable home.
“And the replacement levy would be $17.50 a year, and what that looks like is a $1.46 a month for a $100,000 taxable evaluation.”
Projects Manager Mike Dotts stressed how the ADAMH’s Board works to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars even as the Board’s funding fluctuates each budgeting cycle.
“When we get requests in for assistance it’s not always about funding it. We have to use problem solving skills and triage every request that comes in to determine is our funding, our resources really the best option. The nature of our business is not just to fund service the same things we do every year, but it is to respond to things that come up like the bus accident or the residential treatment. Because we do those things that are one off projects you’d expect both revenue and expenditures to fluctuate from one year to the next as we take those projects on and respond to the needs in the community.”
Levy dollars provide services for children, counseling, suicide prevention, a 24/7 crisis line, jail re-entry coordinator, and more.
The commissioner’s board is reviewing the levy replacement request.
