The Tuscarawas County Veterans Service Office is putting out a final reminder about its new promotion assisting parents with purchasing school supplies.

The office all this month has been helping out veterans by offering them gift cards of 50 dollars per child – in kindergarten through 8th grade – as part of its “Operation Back to School” program.

Service officer Jim Thornton says they saw this as a way to give back and make new connections with younger veterans. This allows his office to then start conversations with the parents who come in on topics that could be of interest to them such as disability compensation.

Veterans will need to stop by the office and show their discharge papers to receive the gift cards, or a marriage certificate for step kids.

The office is off Stonecreek Road southwest in New Philadelphia and it’s open from 8 am to 4 pm.

The promotion is only going on through July, so Thursday’s the last day to grab them.
