Perry Jay Nign, age 82, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio, following an extended illness.
Born on February 9, 1943, in Dennison, Ohio, Perry is the son of the late Walter L. “Pete” Nign and Mamie E. (Gilbert) Nign.
Perry graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1961, before enlisting in the United States Army. Perry took great pride in his time in the military, qualifying Marksman with the M-1 Rifle, and earning the rank of Sergeant (E5) before completing his service Honorably.
On October 9, 1966, Perry married his best friend and the love of his life – Judy A. (Thompson) Nign, in the Uhrichsville Nazarene Church. Perry was a workaholic – a carpenter by trade, belonging to the Carpenters Local #69. He loved hunting, trap shooting, and guiding at Monigold’s Pheasant Farm. Perry was a member of the New Philadelphia Nazarene Church, and shared his time coaching Little League and Pee Wee Football.
Perry deeply loved his family and is survived by his wife Judy; his children Buffy (Harold) Booth, Greg (Jennifer) Nign, and Debbie (Andrew) Basinger; grandchildren Ashten (Benjamin) Young, Bristen (Logan) Willoughby, Cody Booth, Jayden Basinger; great grandson Beckett Jay “Bucket” Willoughby; his dog and partner in crime Abner; step granddaughter Nicole (Brian) Goldstein; a sister Joyce (Bill) Blind; sister-in-law Sue (Terry) O’Brien and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, Perry is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Raymond and Pauline Thompson.
Funeral services for Perry will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home in Uhrichsville, with Pastor Terry Kidd officiating. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 pm, on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the funeral home.
