The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is sharing advice with parents and right now as part of child passenger safety week.

Highway safety specialist Laura Dunn says properly installed car seats, boosters, and safety belts can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers.

Dunn says the administration has free resources on its website nhtsa.gov, including a tool to find the right sized car seat for your child.

The agency recommends kids – depending on their weight and size – be in booster seats in some instances up until about the age of 10, and that kids should not ride in the front seat until the age of 13, as airbags are designed for adults.
