It’s that time of year again when hunters will be out and the first season is archery which begins this weekend.

The long hunting opportunity, running September 27th through February 1st, includes the use crossbows, compound bows, recurve bows, and longbows.

October and November are the most popular months for bowhunting because of increased deer activity during their breeding season.

Hunters are reminded by the Ohio Department of Natural Resource Wildlife Division to always gain written landowner permission if going on to their property. ODNR also notes the need for valid hunting license and a deer permit. More details along with bag limits can be found at wildohio.gov.

Additionally, ODNR says archery season opens ahead of the popular gun season, which will begin with a 2-day youth season on November 22nd and 23rd. All hunters can then participate from December 1st to the 7th. Blaze orange is required to be worn during gun season.
