Uhrichsville’s mayor issues a call to action for council to take a stance regarding recent moves by the Claymont City School District.
Jim Zucal asked council to figure out what move they want to make on the two issues involving decisions coming from the board of education.
“The first issue is the consideration of closure of the building we’re talking about, let’s call it the current Jr. High. Where do we stand on that? The second issue is the funding matter that Dennison has taken a stance on. If there’s activities happening with the school board and there funding out there that the voters need to look at we need to take a stand on that.”
The district’s vote switching inside millage will raise property taxes by $140 per $100,000 home valuation starting next year.
The mayor’s concern over closing the Middle School relates to what the city would do with the building if the district passed the property to Uhrichsville.
Council is expected to reach out to district administration and invite them to the October 9th meeting as they consider the mayor’s requests.
