A former Dover Police officer and 2018 Dover High School graduate died in August as a result of combat activity in Ukraine while serving as an international volunteer member of the Ukrainian Armed Forced.

Max Arnett was 25. He was often the first face seen if stopping by the Dover Police Station in the morning while he worked there.

Arnett worked as a Reserve officer in New Philadelphia before becoming a full-time officer for Sugarcreek, Dover and Kent before going overseas earlier this year.

According to an obituary from Geib Funeral Center, Arnett was a staunch supporter of Ukraine and its right to exist as a sovereign nation.

He volunteered with the Ukrainian Armed Forces – 3rd Assault Brigade and earned the designation of squad leader.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. The family asks for memorial donations to foundations that support Ukraine, its people and soldiers – United 24 and Safe Passage 4 Ukraine.
