United Way of Tuscarawas County officials are getting the word out about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to get more kids signed up.
The program mails free books to kids once a month from birth up to the age of five.
United Way President Sarah Spies says Ohio is now part of a pilot program where parents can sign newborns up at the hospital by checking off a box and providing an e-mail address as part of the vital statistics paperwork.
Spies says this option just started over the summer. Nine babies were enrolled this way in Tuscarawas County in August, and then 52 in September.
About 65-percent of eligible children in the county are currently enrolled in the book program, and she’d like to see that higher. Find out more at tuscunitedway.org.
