New Philadelphia mayor Joel Day says construction is finally about to get underway on the city’s much-anticipated makeover of three of the four downtown quadrants.

State and local officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the project back in July.

Day says work will now start next Monday, October 20th beginning with the northwest gazebo quadrant.  It’s being funded through 2.9 million dollars from governor mike DeWine’s Appalachian community grant program.

The work will take about a year to complete. Day says the city will keep the public informed about any anticipated traffic disruptions through its Facebook page and press releases.

The construction will not stop the city from having its Christmas lighting ceremony or parade this season, though some adjustments could be needed.
