Voter turnout was higher than expected for Tuesday’s general election.
Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Dave Johnson says that, overall, everything went well at polling locations and for absentee ballots.
“We had a 30.86% voter turnout which is fantastic for a mid-term election. We had a total of 17,404 ballots casts for this election which is amazing. The turnout is more than we were expecting.”
Johnson stresses that the posted results are unofficial.
“We have a four-day cure period, which means anybody who didn’t have an ID or change of name. It gives us four days to check all that information. Those are provisional ballots.”
There is also a grace period for mailed in ballots that may count as long as they are post marked by Monday, November 3rd.
Johnson says it was a smooth election, commending the office staff and the polling location workers.
“We have some of the best poll workers in the state in Tuscarawas County. I can’t speak enough of them. All of our poll workers work maybe once maybe twice a year and the things they have to remember and the things they do is just phenomenal.”
On November 17th, the Elections Board will have an official canvas and vote on the roughly 76 provisional ballots, which are potential votes.
