A citation is issued for a New Philadelphia man who drove the wrong way on US 250 before causing a two-vehicle crash.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Post Sgt. Bill Bower says they started receiving reports Wednesday just after 8pm.
“Everybody that was in that location did a great job letting us know where he was, it’s just we didn’t have any troopers, which is unusual at that point in time, around that location and we knew we needed to get that vehicle stopped.”
The preliminary crash report lists the 88-year-old driver westbound on US 250 east before he started driving north on I-77 and then crashing with another vehicle.
“Looks like the crash was at the southbound ramp to 250 eastbound. So, interstate 77 southbound on US 250 eastbound the ramp there was closed for about a half hour while we did our investigation there.”
Both vehicle occupants had minor injuries. The at-fault driver was issued a wrong way citation. Bower says OSP is also submitting paperwork to the DMV to have that individual retested.
Bower commends the dispatchers for quickly working to get the information out to troopers and other local law enforcement for action to prevent a possible tragedy.
