New Philadelphia police were on standby as the US Marshals Service was in town to arrest a man in the 300 block of Ray Avenue northeast Friday morning.
The suspect was 18-year-old Derquan Edwards. He was wanted by Akron police on a warrant for theft of a firearm.
New Philadelphia police positioned school resource officers at East and Central Elementaries as this was going on, out of an abundance of caution.
U.S. Marshals’ spokesperson Anne Murphy says her agency gave New Philadelphia police the heads up, with partnering law enforcement agencies respond in different ways.
Edwards was arrested without incident. He was then transported and booked into the summit county jail.
Murphy could not say what his connection to the area was, other than marshals were just given information of where he was staying.
