New Philadelphia City Council is considering raises for non-union employees and elected officials that collectively would be an 11 percent increase over the next three years.

The increases are not all the same percentage, but the collective increase is 5 percent the first year and 3 percent the next two years. The mayor would get about a 3-thousand dollar raise each year, boosting his salary from 109-thousand to 118-thousand by 2028 – about an 8 percent increase.

By the end of the three year period, the city would have six administrators earning 6-figure salaries in 2028 compared to just two this year.

The largest increase would be about 16-thousand dollars over three years for the wastewater and water department superintendents. That’s a 20 percent increase.

Council members including Steve Rippeth said the raises will keep employees on pace cost of living increases.

The raises would be for 27 employees and 12 elected officials, including Council members. Councilman Kris Kreinbihl said the new salaries are consistent with similar municipalities.

City employees will also have to pay more toward health care, from 5 percent currently to 8 percent by 2028. City Council will likely vote on the measure before the end of the year.
