New Philadelphia plans to change the zoning along West High Avenue to facilitate more development further east of Blue Bell Drive.

Officials say it would be an extension of the residential business district that right now includes the Blue Bell Drive area. The proposal would add 153 parcels between downtown and I-77.

Mayor Joel Day says the new zoning regulations would remove some restrictions preventing certain businesses from locating there.

City Service Director Ron McAbier says the zoning change makes sense.

The city’s planning commission has already approved the zoning change. City Council will likely vote on the proposal in January.
