The Tuscarawas Valley Local School district is on the hunt for a new athletic director.

The board approved the resignation of Steve Franks effective June 30th.

Franks says he began his career at Dover for four years before moving to Tusky Valley in 1998.

“To take over the head basketball program. Always wanted to look at being an athletic director. Coach Bob Von Keneal was my coach in high school and athletic director at the time so that was something that I wanted to get into. Following in his footsteps along with Mr. Hurst, who I took over from. John Hurst was the AD here at Tusky Valley while I was the basketball coach for 19 years.”

Franks helped establish Tusky Valley girls’ golf and soccer. Overall, he says there’s been a lot of memorable moments and accomplishments during his time as AD.

“We went through a stretch of volleyball years where our volleyball team went to state back-to-back. Taking the golf teams to the state tournament. Our track at the state tournament. Our cross-country teams. All those have been great memories and enjoyable just to watch our kids excel.”

Franks will officially be recognized at the end of the school year. The Board expects to name the next Athletic Director in early 2026.
