Mathew Carl Simmerman of Freeport (Peoli), Ohio passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 51. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on July 24, 1974 to Carl Simmerman and Glenna (Murphy) Simmerman.
He is survived by his wife of thirty years Jamie Lynn (Ferguson) Simmerman, two sons Chase (Katrina) Simmerman and Zac Simmerman, two grandsons Hunter and Micah Simmerman, his parents, brother Scott (Danelle) Simmerman, niece Brienna Simmerman, best friends for thirty-eight years James (Sarah) Kimble and their children Codey (Sadie) Kimble and Cat (Dylan) Armstrong, mother in law Stephanie Ferguson, brother-in-law Michael (Merissa) Ferguson, and nephew and niece Chris and Cassie Ferguson of Montgomery, Texas, his Aunt Charlotte (Greg) Heller, and Uncle Paul Eddie (Jane) Simmerman.
He is preceded in death by his brother Ernie Simmerman, father-in-law John Ferguson, Jr., and his grandparents William (Madeline) Murphy, and Floyd (Olive) Simmerman.
Mat had a quiet personality, often keeping to himself, but to those he did open up to, he became a very loyal friend. His loyalty and dedication came from the discipline that was instilled in him from Boy Scouts. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later became an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 560 alongside the late Mr. Harold George, where he shepherded his own sons, Codey Mathew Kimble, and many other boys to the rank of Eagle scout.
Outside of Boy Scouts, Mat’s loyalty showed up at his job at Kurz Kasch for over twenty-five years. He worked his way up to the title of Journeyman Master Maintenance Mechanic. He was known to even go in to work on his days off to fix any problem at hand.
When not working at Kurz Kasch, Mat could be found out in the fields with his cows. Mat was an avid farmer who liked his cattle more than most people, especially his cows Charlotte, Rose, Romeo, and Ring Eye. He even built a calf pen in the garage so a calf could keep him company as he worked on farm equipment. He was known to spoil the calves with marshmallows, Disney movies, and Farmer Tyler on YouTube. He loved smoking ribs and keeping bees with his son Zac, working on old Chevy trucks and talking with his son Chase, and nursing stray animals and livestock back to health with his wife.
Mat took great pride in his work, but what made him the happiest was being with his two grandsons, Hunter and Micah, and his niece Brienna. For those three, he would give the world.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him best. At Mat’s request, there will not be calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Clearfork Baptist Church in Kimbolton on January 3rd, 2026, at 1PM.
